Electronic Paper

“Electronic” paper refers to a flexible plastic film that allows images or text to change. In July 2005, Fujitsu unveiled a durable electronic paper that can retain an image. According to its press release, “The new electronic paper features vivid color images that are unaffected even when the screen is bent, and features an image memory function that enables continuous display of the same image without the need for electricity.” Electricity is only required to change the image.
The technology could one day be used to create small, “electronic” billboards, which change messages when a mail piece is delivered.
